GODFREY, Ill.- Lewis and Clark Community College put together an offensive showcase in its matchup against Parkland, netting six goals in a 6–2 victory. The Trailblazers spread the scoring around, with Aboudi Ibrahim striking twice while Joao Lutz Rocha, Charlie Donaldson, David Sanchez, and Caua Menezes each added a goal.
Parkland answered with two goals from Christophin Ngassam, but Lewis & Clark controlled possession, outshooting the Cobras 26–12 and generating five corner kicks.
Head coach John Dunn was pleased with the team's attacking play but emphasized the need for improvement at the back.
"We were good going forward vs. Parkland and scored some nice goals, but we still need to tighten up defensively," Dunn said. "We need to start working for clean sheets. We have a very poor defensive record so far this season, and that needs to change by the time we get to the business end of the season."
The Trailblazers also recently took on Missouri Baptist in a scrimmage, which Dunn viewed as a valuable opportunity for squad rotation.
"The scrimmage vs. Missouri Baptist was a great opportunity to get guys that haven't played many minutes an opportunity. Some of them got themselves more into the picture than before, which was great to see."
Next up, Lewis and Clark turns its attention to an important stretch of the schedule. The Trailblazers play another non-region opponent midweek before opening Region 24 play against Illinois Central College (ICC) on Sept. 27.
Dunn expects a difficult challenge.
"ICC is highly ranked, and I think they are a very talented team, so we will certainly be prepared," Dunn said. "We have another important non-region game Wednesday, so all our focus is on that game at the minute."
