Lewis and Clark Men’s Soccer Picks Up Back-To-Back Wins Over Miami Dade and Greenville
GODFREY, IL — Lewis and Clark Community College secured two wins over Labor Day weekend, edging Miami Dade 2-1 on Sept. 1 before cruising past Greenville in a 3-0 scrimmage the following day.
Aboudi Ibrahim opened the scoring in the 50th minute off assists from Craig Moore and Joao Lutz Rocha, before Marco Lopez doubled the lead five minutes later with an unassisted strike. Miami Dade pulled one back in the 65th, but goalkeeper Vitor Hennig's four saves preserved the Trailblazers' win. Lewis and Clark outshot Miami Dade 18-10 and held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
Assistant coach Jacob Bilyeu said several key players elevated their game.
"I thought Charlie really stepped up his game today," Bilyeu said. "Having Javi back as well pushed us to a win, and David had a complete performance."
Bilyeu noted the team still has room for growth as the season progresses.
"I still think we can break teams down more," Bilyeu said. "We are talented enough to control games. We need to get to the point where we are on the ball for a bulk of games, so we can create 20 chances a game with multi-goal wins. I also would still love a clean sheet."
The Trailblazers got their wish for a shutout the following day in a scrimmage against Greenville, posting a 3-0 win behind goals from Alex Brownlee, Micaiah Paice and Yarin Assoulin.
Head coach John Dunn said the match gave him the chance to reward players who have been working hard in training.
"It was great to have an opportunity to give guys who are training some minutes in a competitive game," Dunn said. "They've been working hard, so it was good to reward them with a game."
Dunn praised several individual efforts in the win.
"I enjoyed many performances today from Davi coming back from injury to Micaiah getting on the scoresheet and working so hard," Dunn said. "It was a good team performance."
Lewis and Clark Community College continues its fall schedule this weekend with a road matchup.
