Trailblazers Volleyball Prepares for Season with Intense Intrasquad Matchup
GODFREY, IL – The Lewis and Clark Community College women's volleyball team took the court Saturday for an intrasquad scrimmage, with the Black team earning a 3-0 sweep over Blue in a competitive tune-up ahead of the season. Black won by set scores of 25-16, 28-26 and 25-23.
"What impressed me the most today was the versatility of all the players," head coach Jenna Brown said. "Everyone got playing time and everyone made an impact in their own way."
The scrimmage was designed to provide balance on both sides of the net.
"When making the lineups, I tried to make them as evenly matched as possible," Brown said. "I think the teams pushed each other and made it very competitive."
Several standout performances highlighted the afternoon. Sophomore Armony Nichols delivered a string of aggressive serves that helped spark her team's momentum. Kendall Meisenheimer and Shaylee Ayers showed noticeable growth in their attacking, and outside hitter Haili Pajares continued to establish herself as a reliable offensive threat.
Brown said the scrimmage is part of the team's broader preseason preparation.
"Our big focus is improving our volleyball IQ and quickening our processing in order to read the competitors' offense and improve our defensive skills," she said. "This scrimmage prepares us for future competitors because it continues to push players to perform at their highest level in order to get a starting role this upcoming week."
The Trailblazers open their regular season on August 21 at Kaskaskia College.
